In Loving Memory of Maru the Cat

Sad news for all who love to watch cat videos on YouTube. Maru the Cat died on the 6th of September, 2025. With his death, a glorious era of cat videos rides into the sunset.

Since his birth in 2007, Maru the Cat has always been with us even in the darkest of times such as the 2011 East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami as well as the plague year that was 2020. Throughout his entire life, he proved that claustrophobia is not in his vocabulary by stuffing himself into tiny cardboard boxes. This made his cat videos so popular that he was listed on the Guinness World Records for being the most watched cat on YouTube in 2016.

Farewell, Maru. You were the very definition of the "If I fits, I sits" meme before it became mainstream.

Dropping Like Flies

The deaths of Connie Francis and Hulk Hogan came at a time when our world is going through a period of turbulence and turmoil. With bad news coming faster than hypersonic missiles, looks like 2025 is turning out to be another Annus Horribilis...

Connie Francis was best known for the song "Where The Boys Are", which has been associated with being the theme song of the film "Where The Boys Are". This made Connie Francis the voice of a generation and the soundtrack of post-war America. Unfortunately, her later years were very unkind to her. In 1974, she was almost killed by an assault incident. Then in 1981, her brother was assassinated for standing up against organized crime. Despite several comebacks and winning a lawsuit that resulted in tougher hotel security, Connie Francis had to do battle against depression until her death on the 16th of July, 2025. Not to mention that she revealed her truth about the entertainment industry several months before her death...

Hulk Hogan (Real Name: Terry Bollea) is a wrestler who needs no introduction whatsoever. During the 2024 US Presidential Election Campaign, this WWE Hall of Famer called for the restoration of Donald Trump to the White House, which actually happened as a result of Donald Trump winning the 2024 US Presidential Election, resulting in Donald Trump beginning his Grover Cleveland Arc. Unfortunately, several months after the start of Donald Trump's Grover Cleveland Arc, Hulk Hogan died from a heart attack on the 24th of July, 2025, and WWE fans were left in mourning as a result.

With all that said, time is short, and it serves as a reminder of the fragility of life itself. At least Connie Francis is now in a better place just like Shelley Duvall.

Tragic Backstory Origins

Author's Note: All copyrights for the images in this comic go to their respective owners.

Today marks the 40th Anniversary of the Japan Airlines Flight 123 tragedy that has left enormous scars to this very day. With 520 fatalities, it still remains the worst single-plane crash in aviation history.

It may have been possible that Sailor Moon author Naoko Takeuchi drew inspiration from the Japan Airlines Flight 123 crash for the tragic backstory revolving around the death of Makoto Kino's parents in a plane crash. This may not be true, but we still do not know yet.

The Face of Under One Roof

Sad news, folks. Moses Lim, the man who was the face of Under One Roof, passed away at the age of 75 yesterday. His health was not in good shape since 2018, but it was in 2023 when he revealed that he had a slow pulse rate that he decided not to return to the spotlight.

Farewell, Moses Lim. You were the face of Under One Roof and Singaporean sitcom in general.

Disliked by the YouTubers

Sad news, folks. Former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki is dead. She will be dearly missed by countless YouTubers all over the world.

Just kidding. Susan Wojcicki was a terrible CEO who was disliked by countless YouTubers worldwide. She deserved to die from cancer for ruining the House that Jawed Karim, Steve Chen and Chad Hurley built. Period.

Overshadowed by Bloodbaths

Author's Note: While 17 July 2024 marks 25 years since the official debut of Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants as well as the 125th anniversary of the establishment of iconic Japanese company NEC, there is very little to celebrate because the 10th anniversary of the shoot-down of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 has overshadowed both of these events. Not to mention that Paramount, the owner of Nickelodeon, is in financial turmoil...

There is such a thing as a "Medal of Dishonor". It is an award no one wants to be proud of. The shoot-down of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, however, is a war crime so bad that it is not even worthy of a Medal of Dishonor. To be fair, though, for some people, being awarded with a Medal of Dishonor is a fate worse than death. Killing 298 people by shooting down a passenger jet with an anti-air missile, however, is a terrible war crime, and is therefore, not worthy of even a Medal of Dishonor. Committing such a heinous war crime is definitely far more disgraceful than receiving a Medal of Dishonor for stupid actions by a massive distance.

Remembering Shelley Duvall

Sad News, folks. Shelley Duvall has passed away at the age of 75. She will be best remembered for freaking out in that one infamous scene from the horror film "The Shining", where Jack Nicholson's character yelled "Here's Johnny!" after he slashed a door with an axe. Other than that, Shelley Duvall will be best remembered for Faerie Tale Theatre and Shelley Duvall's Bedtime Stories, both of which have been part of our childhoods during the glory days of VCRs and VHS tapes.

Sad as it is, as we grow older, our childhoods start to die out as time goes by...

The Melancholy of 2024

2024 is turning into yet another Annus Horribilis. The earthquake that happened in Japan on the first day of 2024, followed by a runway collision at Haneda Airport that killed five Coast Guard officers in the line of duty was already bad enough. Funimation being assimilated into Crunchyroll made things worse. And now, Warner Bros is disbanding Rooster Teeth because they are no longer profitable. But the real deal has to be the death of Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, whose other works included Dr Slump, as well as artwork contributions to Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger and Blue Dragon.

Akira Toriyama died on the 1st of March, 2024. But his obituary was revealed seven days later. Japan is like a tortoise when it comes to announcements about several high-profile obituaries. Now that Akira Toriyama is dead like Koichi Sugiyama, who died in 2021, expect Koichi Sugiyama and Akira Toriyama to appear in the "In Memory of" section of the Dragon Quest XII credits.

When Red Vs Blue first came out, there was no YouTube, let alone no MySpace. Now that Rooster Teeth is disbanding due to lack of profitability, the fate of the final season is looking uncertain. Hopefully Phil Spencer will acquire the rights to Red Vs Blue because this web series was based on Microsoft's Halo franchise. Then Red Vs Blue can have the poetic ending it finally deserves.

If 2024 is the year our childhood starts dying, then we probably need to let go of zeitgeist nostalgia, because Isaiah 43:18-19 says that we should forget the former things and not dwell on the past because God is doing a new thing by making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. Given that the turmoil that began in 2020 is going to get worse in the coming days, Isaiah 43:18-19 is going to be even more relevant now than ever before. To quote Dr Strange in Avengers: Infinity War, "We are in the Endgame now."

Farewell Akira Toriyama, and thanks for all the Kamehamehas, Fusion Dances and Dragon Quest Slimes.

The Misery of 2023

2023 isn't over, but this depressing year continues to claim more lives, including a prominent pastor by the name of Joseph Chean, who used to be a guest speaker at Pentecost Methodist Church. For those wondering how Joseph Chean perished in Turkey, his cause of death was an automobile accident on the way back to the airport when the taxi he was on board crashed onto another car. This sad news came amid the wars in Israel and Ukraine.

But the deaths are not the only thing to worry about. Internet censorship is getting worse and worse. Content creators and archivists can be censored or banned for just committing minor violations, let alone the "offensive content" isn't offensive at all. Looks like we are approaching the time of the end indeed...

When Death is more important than Birth...

Author's Note: Today marks ten years since my father passed away. At the time of his death, the state of the world was very turbulent, but now that turbulence has grown a lot worse.

In Ecclesiastes 7:1, it was stated that the day of death is better than the day of birth because in two major instances of birthdays being mentioned in the Bible, they both mentioned somebody dying in a very horrible way, namely the Pharaoh's chief baker and John the Baptist. Therefore, remembering death anniversaries make more sense. In fact, a few European countries in recent years celebrated the lives of a few emperors of the Holy Roman Empire on the death anniversaries of these people. However, these Europeans do not know that these emperors had to cause so much suffering just to shape Europe to what it is today.

Speaking of Rome, the Roman Empire used to observe the Anno Mundi Calendar until Julius Caesar made the Romans ditch the Anno Mundi Calendar in favour of the Julian Calendar, believing that it will make death anniversaries easier to remember, and it did when he was assassinated on the 15th of March, 44 BC. Several centuries later, the Julian Calendar was reworked, resulting in the creation of the Gregorian Calendar. Both the Julian and Gregorian Calendars, however, are not approved by God because they do not follow the Anno Mundi Calendar, which explicitly states that the year begins on the first day of spring, while these two man-made calendars force humanity to start the new year in the middle of winter. In other words, Rome had indeed made a huge mistake in its bid to rule the world.

Pele Tribute

The end of an era in soccer history has finally happened. Pele's obituary has officially hit the headlines, closing what could possibly be the final chapter of the soccer football we have come to love and grown up with. It gets more depressing when you learn that Pele's death happened amid scandals surrounding soccer's governing body and their controversial decisions to award the World Cup hosting rights to countries that were not ready for hosting a massive event.

Farewell, Pele. You will be dearly missed, and your footprints on the histories of Brazil and soccer will be greatly remembered.

The End of a Queen

It is with great sadness that Queen Elizabeth II passed away yesterday. Her obituary was just announced today. King Charles III is now the new King of the United Kingdom. With the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the United Kingdom's new Prime Minister, Liz Truss, is about to have a wild ride on a rough road that lies ahead for her. Amid the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War, the arguments between China and the USA over Taiwan and Korea, and anger against the descendants of Judah for being corrupt, England is about to face a crisis bigger than what Winston Churchill faced at the start of World War 2.

A combination of Brexit and the death of Queen Elizabeth II will bring about bad things. But a dictatorial Britain as seen in V for Vendetta or Code Geass is not going to happen. Instead, Britain's decline will not go into reverse gear but will accelerate faster than an Aston Martin or perhaps a McLaren. Who knows, maybe King Charles III will find himself witnessing the next World War...

Redacted Cause of Death

Author's Note: My apologies to my readers for my absence. One of my uncles passed away due to sudden death by heart disease.

We would like to seek the truth about the true cause of the heart disease that was responsible for sudden deaths. Unfortunately, I am unable to reveal the real truth. Not because I am overwhelmed with grief, but because Big Tech will not allow me to reveal the true cause of the heart disease. Therefore, the real truth will have to be redacted. But then again, this proves that the conspiracy theorists were right all along. They were just being told to keep quiet over and over again.

Legacy of Gorbachev

Yesterday, on the 30th of August, 2022, Mikhail Gorbachev, the last president of the Soviet Union and the man who opened Russia to the rest of the world, passed away at the age of 91. Like him or dislike him, he will be dearly missed. And the saddest part is that his legacy of Perestroika and Glasnost have died with him amid the Russo-Ukrainian War.

As a tribute to Mikhail Gorbachev, here is a comic featuring Mikhail Gorbachev making cameos in video games. The top image is from the MSX version of Gorby's Pipeline, and the bottom image is Zangief's Ending from the Arcade version of Street Fighter 2, which makes more sense given that Gorbachev's obituary happened on the day of the 35th Anniversary of Street Fighter.

Dasvidanya, Gorby. Zangief's fans will never forget your cameo in Street Fighter 2.

Remembering China Airlines Flight 611

Today marks the 20th Anniversary of the midair break-up of China Airlines Flight 611 that killed 225 people, making it the worst air disaster to occur in Taiwanese territory. The crash happened over a month after South Korea's worst air disaster, where a Boeing 767 belonging to Mainland China's national carrier, Air China, crashed on a hill near Busan, killing 129 people. Keep in mind that China Airlines comes from Taiwan, which is where the original Republic of China was exiled to after losing the battle for the Chinese Mainland during the Chinese Civil War, hence the name China Airlines.

In Memory of Masayuki Uemura

It is with deep sadness that Masayuki Uemura's obituary was announced yesterday. Uemura passed away on the 6th of December, 2021. And the 6th of December was formerly the birthday of the late Satoru Iwata. 2021 has seen many major obituaries, including Kentaro Miura, Koichi Sugiyama, and Sir Clive Sinclair.

Masayuki Uemura was known for creating the Famicom, Super Famicom, and their international counterparts, the NES and SNES. He was also one of the co-creators of Nintendo's very first video game hardware, the Color TV Game, as well as the Satellaview add-on for the Super Famicom. He retired from Nintendo in 2004 and became a professor in Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto.

Rest In Peace, Masayuki Uemura. Your legacy will live on in all the Nintendo hardware that you created from 1977 to the mid-1990s.

Remembering Clive Sinclair

It is with deep sadness that Sir Clive Sinclair, the creator of the ZX-80, ZX-81 and ZX Spectrum, passed away on the 16th of September, 2021, at the age of 81. He invented the future, but the future was not ready for it. Perhaps his greatest legacy was that he introduced the world to affordable computing when the ZX Spectrum was released on the 23rd of April, 1982.

Farewell, great inventor. Your legacy will live on through the various ZX Spectrum fan clubs.

Remembering Kentaro Miura

Author's Note: It is with deep sadness that Berserk author Kentaro Miura passed away on the 6th of May, 2021. Yet, this was only made official yesterday.

From my perspective, Kentaro Miura was definitely a legend by manga author standards. He was known for drawing everything in the Berserk manga with an overly detailed style. Unfortunately, this attention to detail may have taken its toll on his health.

For those who do not know about Berserk, this manga and its anime adaptation is known for having a very dark world that would put the Dark Souls series to shame. The main hero of the series, Guts faces monstrous villains that would be far nastier than many of the biggest, baddest baddies in video game history. If Pokemon's Ash Ketchum was dropped inside the world of Berserk to serve Guts as his sidekick, he would have perished in just one battle in less than one minute. Guts was also known for carrying a huge sword that would make Final Fantasy 7's Cloud look like a wimp, and the villains this hero has to face on a very frequent basis are so bad that villainous characters who would feel at home in the Berserk world such as Fury Bowser, Calamity Ganon and Ridley were sadly rejected from the Berserk villains auditions. If Kirito thinks Sword Art Online was a nightmare, perhaps he should try surviving the Berserk world. Then he will remember that there are far worse places than Sword Art Online.

Rest in peace, Kentaro Miura. You are definitely a legend that's gone but not forgotten.

In memory of Kazuhisa Hashimoto

Author's Note: It is with deep sadness that Konami Code creator Kazuhisa Hashimoto's obituary was announced yesterday. This comic featuring sad Konami characters was created in memory of the former Konami programmer who created the most iconic cheat code while porting arcade game Gradius to the NES. The Konami Code then had its meteoric rise in the NES version of Contra, where entering the code grants players 30 additional lives. It even made appearances outside Konami's games. Kazuhisa Hashimoto's Konami Code already had a great reputation that when Hashimoto's obituary was first announced, Konami released a statement on their Twitter page.

Farewell, Kazuhisa Hashimoto. May your legacy live on in video game history books and in your creation.

Final Respects

Author's Note: This comic was originally created in response to Satoru Iwata's obituary, given that his death was on the 11th of July, 2015, although his death was only announced two days later. But delays mean that this comic will be for commemorating his four year death anniversary instead.

While Hiroshi Yamauchi passed away eleven years after stepping down from being in charge of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata passed away while still in charge of Nintendo. No wonder Iwata's obituary made greater headlines than Yamauchi's obituary. Iwata's death also raised awareness about bile duct cancer, which was almost unheard of before Iwata passed away.
