Joy-Con Confusion

Remember the times when people tried to play 3DS games on their Nintendo DS? How about those times when people inserted a Wii U game disc into their Wiis? Well, Nintendo recently announced the Nintendo Switch 2, and its allure will be similar to its predecessor. However, it has the potential to repeat the mistakes that the 3DS and Wii U made during the early days of these two Nintendo consoles.

In order to avoid repeating the same mistakes made during the early days of the 3DS and Wii U, Nintendo needs to have greater clarity in regards to the Nintendo Switch 2. For example, the Nintendo Switch Joy-Cons will not be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2 due to the size comparisons with the Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons. While Nintendo salespeople think this will be sufficient in preventing customers from getting confused, I think Nintendo needs to have greater clarity in regards to the comparison between the Nintendo Switch 2 and its predecessor. That way, Nintendo can at least avoid repeating the same mistake they made during the Wii U's early days.

A Farewell to the eShops

Today is the day the 3DS and Wii U eShops close their doors for good, meaning the Virtual Console service and its emulation of Nintendo's past hardware is officially discontinued. However, the Nintendo Switch Online's Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance emulators are already up and running, with DS and GameCube emulation being considered. To say that Nintendo dislikes emulators is not true. They just do not like unlicensed emulators competing with their official ones.

7MARIO7KART

Author's Note: The idea for this comic was conceived when I used to play Mario Kart 7 like a professional gamer. The inspiration for the comic's title came from a Mario Kart comic found on Tumblr titled "64MARIO64KART", which was created by Tumblr user VG-Libary.

Mario Kart 7 was known for introducing underwater driving and hang-gliding, and was notorious for having Waluigi missing from the playable characters list.

Having a submarine with wheels firing turtle shells like torpedoes made sense when players can drive underwater in Mario Kart 7, and an actual submarine-based go-kart appeared in Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U.

With the introduction of hang-gliders as kart parts in Mario Kart 7, air combat in a Mario Kart game is now a reality, and this continued into Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

My theory on why Waluigi is missing from the final Mario Kart 7 playable character roster was because Ash Ketchum shot him out of the sky in an air-to-air hang-glider duel. As a result, Ash was banned from making cameo appearances in the Mario series altogether.

MineSmashed

Ladies and gentlemen, we have done the impossible again. Minecraft's Steve is coming to Super Smash Bros Ultimate, and he brought in Alex, a Zombie and an Enderman.

If you are wondering how Minecraft got in to Smash, it could be due to Mojang's negotiatons with Nintendo beginning five years ago. Another explanation could be due to the existence of the Wii U, New 3DS and Switch Editions of Minecraft, and these versions of Minecraft for Nintendo platforms had the exclusive Super Mario Mash-up DLC package.

Now all we need is for Sony to let the Lemmings enter Smash, and we will finally accomplish a feat even more impossible than Microsoft allowing Banjo-Kazooie to enter Smash.

Update: Sora from Kingdom Hearts is the final Fighters Pass character, and he is not owned by Sony. Guess Sony is so bitter towards Nintendo that unlike Microsoft, Sony does not even want to think about taking hostilities to the personal level. Also, Exient acquired the rights to Lemmings from Sony. This means despite relinquishing the rights to some of their franchises to other companies, Sony does not want to take part in a Nintendo dueling tournament at all.

End of the Dual Screen Era

Fun fact: The DS in Nintendo DS stands for Dual Screen.

Many people speculated about 2020 being the year the Nintendo 3DS line gets discontinued. It turns out they were right because on the 17th of September, 2020, Nintendo announced that Nintendo 3DS production has officially ended, bringing the dual screen handheld era to an end. Online services for the Nintendo 3DS, however, will not go offline yet, aside from the 3DS eShop being no longer available in certain parts of the world.

Farewell, Nintendo 3DS family! Thanks for taking dual screen handhelds to 3-dimensional levels!

The Origins of Acid Tokyo

Our condolences for the Pancham that got dissolved by the Alolan Muk's Acid Downpour.

The Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations version of Tokyo was often nicknamed "Acid Tokyo" due to the city being reduced to ruins by acid rain. Also, Acid Downpour is a Poison-Type Pokemon's Z-move, so Tokyo turning into Acid Tokyo due to a Poison-Type Pokemon such as Alolan Muk using Acid Downpour just to defeat an enemy Pokemon seems to be a logical origin story that makes sense.
