Today marks the 75th anniversary of Operation Crossroads, a SINKEX that truly heralded the end of the era when battleships ruled the seven seas. Although the enormous explosion was supposed to scuttle the target ships, it was actually the radioactive fallout from the atomic bombs that rendered warship armor useless as the radiation would kill off the warship's crew, rendering it a radioactive ghost ship.
As a result of the Operation Crossroads SINKEX, Bikini Atoll remains uninhabitable to this very day because the islanders can never return due to the radioactive substances...
There have been theories about the underwater life of SpongeBob SquarePants. Some claim the anthropomorphic underwater creatures were the result of the nuclear tests at Bikini Atoll, which may have been the namesake for Bikini Bottom, the town where SpongeBob SquarePants takes place in. Whether this is true or not is uncertain.
