Swimsuit Design Modesty

Even video games that feature gymnastics and swimming, which are sports that contain fanservice, had to choose female swimsuit designs that have less fanservice appeal in order to reach out to the adolescent gamer market. But it's not just Nintendo that had to comply with such regulations. Sega had to give Amy and Blaze skirted swimwear, and some people think skirts would slow them down hydrodynamically. This, however, turned out to be false, at least by video game logic standards.

By choosing swimsuit designs that sacrifice fanservice for modesty, it's clear that some video game companies had to comply with regulations concerning female swimwear designs. Notably, the last two alternate costumes for Zero Suit Samus in Super Smash Bros for 3DS and Wii U and Super Smash Bros Ultimate could have been disallowed by the video game age ratings authorities. However, if a two-piece swimsuit consists of a sports bra swim top and a boyshorts swim bottom, it gets a pass from the video game age ratings authorities, possibly because sports bras and boyshorts are considered modest by two-piece swimsuit standards.
