Charles Martinet Passes The Baton

It's official. Charles Martinet has passed the Mario voice acting baton to a new voice actor, meaning those who suspected that Mario sounded differently in the first trailer of Super Mario Bros Wonder because they claim that Mario is now voiced by a different person were right all along. Nintendo has also announced that Charles Martinet is not voicing Wario in WarioWare: Move It! as well. This is also due to Charles Martinet passing the Wario voice acting baton to a new voice actor.

Some wonder if Charles Martinet's decision to step down from being the voice of Mario as well as Wario was due to Gary Oak's voice actor James Carter Cathcart being forced to retire due to being diagnosed with cancer. This is going to leave Dr Eggman's voice actor Mike Pollock with a very difficult dilemma, and Charles Martinet isn't even at Death's Door yet. He's just moved on to being Mario Ambassador.

Update: Charles Martinet's successor has been revealed, and his name is Kevin Afghani. Hailing from Los Angeles, Kevin Afghani's biggest voice acting role before taking up the mantle of voicing Mario as well as Wario was Arnold from Genshin Impact. Looks like a new voice acting superstar has risen.
