A Showdown with no Second Face-off

Back in 2001, during National Day, Pokemon and Cardcaptor Sakura had a face-off. No, it did not have them fight each other. Rather, it was a TV marathon. And when it ended, viewers such as myself were left wishing that one day, Ash Ketchum and Sakura Kinomoto will face each other again in the future. Unfortunately, it didn't happen because neither character was eligible for Nintendo's Super Smash Bros series due to licensing issues. Maybe Masahiro Sakurai knew about the licensing issues concerning Tatsunoko vs Capcom, which is why he enforced a "no non-video game characters allowed" policy for the Super Smash Bros series. But if licensing issues are not the reason, then the lore of both franchises will be the reason. Pokemon was always considered a very dangerous series because of backstories having wars in them, while Sakura Kinomoto's magical girl escapades were only made possible due to the dark events of Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, and Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle had a stabbing incident where it turns out the Sakura that got stabbed was a clone. For all we know, the real reason Ash never grows old was because Pokemon had been all just a dream from a dying, mentally ill Ash living in a mundane world all along. Even then, the producers do not want to mention that he was a Zainichi Korean as well.

All in all, we will have to accept the fact that we cannot have nice things...
