Let's be honest. The oxen that pulled the wagons that brought migrants to Oregon were the unheralded heroes of the Oregon Trail. The oxen, like the pioneers that purchased them to pull their wagons, have to go through trials and tribulations, including sicknesses, and also dying along the way. Sometimes, oxen will die alongside a member of an expedition party during a failed river crossing. There might also be cases of oxen theft, but it's just random crimes that took place during the Oregon Trail. At the end of the day, only God knows the true death toll of both pioneers and oxen alike from the wagons that failed to make it all the way to Oregon.
By the way, 2021 is an Ox Year. However, the terrible pandemic of 2020 is still not over at the time of this comic being published. That is why this comic features oxen falling sick or dying on the Oregon Trail.
